This 2009 Royal Mint £5 coin was issue around the 11th July 2009 to

"Celebrate the 150th of Big Ben" - Our Parliament Clock.

It was originally to be sold in silver proof quality ONLY at £54.95 !

However the Royal Mint have now decided to sell a limited few of these coins in cupro-nickel proof quality at a reduced price of £19.95, and housed in the above - blister pack.

The name "Big Ben" should technically only refer to the clock's largest bell, but has become synonymous with the clock and the tower. The bell was cast in Whitechapel on 10 April 1858. It was first rung in the Great Westminster Clock on 11 July 1859.

* The Great Clock was started 12 days earlier on 31 May 1859. The quarter bells first chimed on 7 September 1859.

The Royal will still issue this coin in silver proof condition but at £54.95 we will not be stocking it !!!

We have only a limited few of these proof coins and they are sold on a first come, first served basis.
