1792 French Republic (1792-1795), Convention Pattern 2 Sols. Soho mint, 15.9 grams, Ref: Maz-332 Issued by the Monneron Brothers with dies created by Dupré. Obv. Hercules obverse appeared on the obverse breaking the royal sceptre. A broken royal crown can be seen at his feet and an owl (the symbol of Minerva, the goddess of wisdom) stands on a pedestal behind him. The legend reads “LA SAGESSE GUIDE SA FORCE” – wisdom guides his strength; and the inscription in the exergue reads “LA FIN DU DESPOTISME” – the end of despotism. Rev. Pyramid in centre foreground, clouds above and buildings behind , in the distance. The legend reads “RESPUBLICA GALLICA ANNO 1 mo” – The 1st year of the Republic.
