[CF]  COPPER FARTHINGS  1838-1859

GRADE

Price (£)

Forward: The obverse dies for this period were used for striking
both Sovereigns and later, when the die began to show slight signs
of wear, for the Farthings. This helps to explain why so many
defects in the legends are recorded i.e. Missing bars to A's etc.
The reverse dies  also have their defects most notably the weak
or missing colon dots. It is assumed that the dies started with
all of the colon dots in perfect alignment and that any weakening

or disappearance of these dots occurred during use.

Therefore they should not be considered of MAJOR importance

However, there are some collectors that enjoy collecting or

recording some of these varieties - so for those collectors

we will list some of the colon dot varieties - that we find

Assume full colon dots unless stated
