1944 Japan
Occupation coinage struck for use in the Netherlands East Indies. Struck at the Osaka Mint, Japan in (1944) Japanese Shinto dynastic calendar year NE 2024. With the worsening war situation Japan found it virtually impossible to ship the coins. Consequently, none of the coins arrived in the Netherlands East Indies. Almost the entire issue was either lost or re-melted at the Mint. Made in a Tin Alloy.
Grade: EF (for issue) unused. Dark toned
