1776 Maundy 4d - The B of HIB is over another letter but I cannot determine for sure what it might be - If anyone can come up with a plausible explanation I shall be pleased to hear from them. My best instincts suggest that it is a repair and that it is part of the B - but struck in the wrong place ! * The R of REX has the same 'bit' in the top part of the letter as the top part of B !!?
I have seen this variety on ALL 1776 4d's so far.
The A of MAG is over another A (again a repair !) - only the right leg shows below.
