M4 1683 (Maundy 4d) Obv. The A of GRATIA has been repaired / over-struck with an A slightly to the left of the original A. It is very easy to recognise this variety due to the 'bit' of the 'top' of the other A showing a the top left edge of the original A - as shown with the red arrow. There is also a thin trace of the right leg of the A between the two feet of the upright A. There is a trace of the centre bar of this mis-struck 'A' just outside the original A, midway up. Finally a trace of the left foot of the 'A' to the left of the foot of the 'I'. This is a new discovery and is unlisted in any reference book.
