1679 Maundy 3d. Rev. The repairer has made the mistake of attempting to repair
REX and has done so under HIB instead !?
The upright of the R is seen inside the left upright of the H
The tail of the R is seen past the right upright of the H
touching the base of the I of HIB.
The "E" can be seen under the "I". The centre bar and the
lower leg of the "E" are the most obvious.
The "X" - the extreme right tips can be seen just to the
outside, top & bottom, of the "B".
Quite an error ! Again an unlisted variety
* The obverse die to this variety normally has the GR of GRATIA - touching !
** The scan of HIB has been cleaned up to show the variety. For the actual "untouched" coin
see the reverse scan - above. Which has a small edge flaw or pinched effect just between
the B of HIB & R of REX. Also visible at edge between A & R of CAROLVS.
