1834 to 1837 - 2 Obverse dies
Obv. Small attempted pierce at top - toned
VICTORIA
Right from the start of Victoria's reign,1838 to 1857,
it appears as if there were problems with the colon dots
at the end of the legend - F: D; (Obverse 1)
Various positions have been noted (up to 1860)
These are the ones we have come across so far
As to their rarity or importance as varieties - who knows !
We have listed as
Type A - The original position of the 2 colon dots after D:
Type Aa; Ab & Ac - 2 colon dots in new alignments after D:
Type Ad - 3 colon dots after D.:
Type Ae - 4 colon dots after D::
Type Af - 3 colon dots after F.: D.:
& now Ag

A nice deep dark tone
1858 to 1861 - 3 Obverse dies
1858 1 + A Date: 8 over 6
1858 1 + A D of F: D: over higher D - Date: 8over 6
1859 - Unlisted Reverse variety
The ribbon tie strings below the 3 are normally
1861 - 3 width variations noted
Narrow = a; Medium = b & Wide = c
Obverse die 2 (1859 -68) appears to have
some of the similar problems encountered in
Obverse 1 with the colon dots of F: D:
Possibly because Obverse 2 is only a
re-touched version of Obverse 1 !
These are variations we have noted so far
Type A- Af colon dots varieties (obv. 1)
Type Ah - The lower colon dots after F:D: weak or missing
Type Ak - Some of the colon dots after F: D & D: G: are missing
Type Am - The foot of the F & part of the D are missing
Type An - The lower colon after D is in contact with the D
1866 to 1868 - 2 Obverse & 2 Reverse dies
