Sixpences 1888 - 2 reverse dies

SX 1887 & 1888 reverse B

SX 1887 & 1888 reverse B

SX 1888 reverse C

SX 1888 reverse C

SX 1888 reverse D

SX 1888 reverse D

SX 1888 A - with reverse B - The branch on the right side of the wreath, where the 2nd leaf leans to

right there is a small 'bit in the centre that attaches to nothing. The branch at the bottom

curls upwards as if connected to the leaf that points upwards.

The continuing branch points forwards to the next leaf that leans right - the branch above

does not appear to be in line or connected to the branch below !

                   * This reverse seems to be fairly scare.

SX 1888 B - with reverse C - The branch on the right side of the wreath, where the 2nd leaf leans to

right the leaf now has a strong connection to the branch. There is a hairline centre stalk

that appears to connect to the upwardly pointing leaf.

The branch at the bottom is now very much stronger and appears to be continue under

the back of the leaf, leaning to the right and connect to the branch above. That was not

                   to clear in reverse B.

The continuing branch curves slightly upwards to just behind the next leaf that leans to

the right and appears to connect to the branch above.

                   * This reverse seems to be the commonest/normal for the issue.

SX 1888 C - with reverse D - The branch on the right side of the wreath, where the 2nd leaf leans to

right the leaf now very clearly splits in 3. It appears as an oval with a line running through

the centre. The top stalk is for the leaf that leans to the right. Both the centre and the

bottom branch/stalk seem to go towards the leaf pointing upwards.

There then appears to be two branches. The lower one going - nowhere ! and the one

                   above is the branch continuation.

                   * I have now managed to purchase a 2nd example of this unusual reverse type. (Feb. 2018)
