A choice example of an obverse

brockage of a Victorian sixpence

The obverse is type 2 (1859 to 1868)

See how the head on the reverse /

brockage side has expanded due

to the blank not being constrained in a

collar. Extremely rare and unusual

Ghosting & die cracks in the

 1840's  1850's & 1860's

It appears that the Royal Mint had big

problems with the sixpence dies clashing.

This in turn would have caused the

many die cracks on these dies.

As I add new items to these web pages

I am finding that it is very rare to see

a sixpence "without" the ghosting of

Victoria's head on the reverse.

However several coins also show part

of the 'wreath & ribbon ties' from the

reverse of the coin, below Victoria's

bust, on the obverse as well as

the several die cracks.

Several examples in the 1850's

show double or more 'ghost' images

where the dies clashed more than once!
